I wouldn't mind having a tuba that played perfectly in tune. But I'd rather have ears that hear in tune, and bandmates that play in tune on their respective instruments.
What's the good of having an instrument that plays a well-tempered chromatic scale when the string players tend more toward a pythagoran scale in any given key?
And playing with perfect well-tempered intonation would make a hash out of brass quintet harmonies, which sound terrible when well tempered.
