As far as the best horn I've ever, I'd have to say the Besson 981(though I'm admittedly biased)- my only complaint being the shifty valve setup. I'd have thought that the 983 would be the perfect 'fix', but the 981 has something that the 983 doesn't that I just can't put my finger on.

I played the Gronitz Piston F tuba for about 10 minutes once and felt like I could have sat there playing it for days- definitely a horn I plan on spending more time with in the future.
