I agree with Rick. The sound quality differences between close up and in a hall can be striking. I am used to working on pipe organs, and that is always true of the sound from pipes. Up close in an organ chamber they can sound unbelievably coarse, while sounding magnificent in the hall.

Probably the only way you are going to hear what you really sound like is by recording yourself -- and that would have to be done in an acoustical environment duplicating your performance environment.
