If you do put a tuba in a hard case for baggage, make sure the bell cannot hit the inside of the case. My son went to Spain with a group and brought home an intact case with the bell bent inside. Two ways I have heard of to do this are: 1) put a partially inflated rubber ball in the bell so any impact on the bell end is absorbed and transferred to the inside of the bell stack; 2) make sure the foam or other padding that holds the top bow in will not let the horn move to the end of the case and impact the inside. I confess I have not had occasion to use either remedy, I have only seen the result of not doing anything in this regard.

Good luck and have a great time.
