I think most people just assume that since you play tuba you can automatically handle a big bass bone mouthpiece, but they are two different animals and just because you have a big tuba mouthpiece it is not the same as playing on a big bassbone mouthpiece. For one you will work much harder on bass bone than you ever do on tuba to play the same licks. The bass bone just sucks the air right out of you compared to a tuba, so go with a smaller mouthpiece to give you some added resistance, especially at first. You will be using a different setting anyway so you may as well use a smaller piece and get a better tone and have more control.
Do some separate mouthpiece buzzing to get used to the smaller piece.
