The reason I use that word is exactly its original semantic contents from the text and music areas.

One of the great orchestral tubists (and tuba designer) once told me something on the phone, which made me see the line from Cerveny trough almost all designs of rotary tubas.

The general trend of modifications points towards wider bell flares also on the rotary tubas. Extremes being US and Italian instruments:
