Our community band has an 11J that was loaned to them by the local high school. It has a ring (I am working from memory and never played the horn) probably 6 or 8 inches below the top of the bell and front action valves. It seems to play OK from what I have been told. I don't know the vintage but it seems to be fairly substantial as it hasn't dented that much over the years.

Another HS band in the area has one loaned to a fellow who plays in another local community band. It has 11J marked on the bell, but has no ring, and has upright valves. The guy who plays it tells me it is much better than the Jupiter 382 he was playing.

Sorry to confuse the issue, but obviously one of the above is an 11J, the other not. Or, Conn made them more than one way?
