to CC or not to CC...

well, it certainly depends on the piece in question... does it fit the character of the big horn? probably not, but i've been surprised how nice and flavorful a vocalise can sound on a CC.

of course, tessitura is going to have a huge affect on your choice, and the F will probably "handle" better than a 4/4, and most audience members, i'm sure will prefer F over CC, but you are sacrificing the real essence of the tuba.

take the vaughan williams and work it out on CC and you'll be surprised in a. how manageable the concerto is on 4/4 and b. how nice it sounds, esp. in the lower register.
