I really don't think the rotary has outrageous pitch problems. I have owned my rotary 2155 for 2.2 years now. It just takes time getting to know the intonation. True, the intonation is not perfect, but it is no worse than many horns out there now. Maybe I lucked up, but I find the intonation about the same as many horns out there, it is just that the intonation is 'off' on different notes than on different tubas. Maybe a smaller leadpipe would help? I don't know.
You are right though, it has a fantastic sound similar to the Alexander tubas. Just a deep, warm, but focussed sound.
