I've had a couple of days now with what I am told is a very uncommon, solid german-silver Alexander 163. The horn is at least 40 years old, though I'd guess maybe even older as the MP receiver is stamped "GERMANY" (not "W. GERMANY") and a fine fine player as Alexes go. It was a blast playing it last night in our Foothill band, one of my section mates also futzed with it some after rehearsal anbd seemed to really like it too, especially its high end.

My questions: anyone really know how many of these solid nickel silver horns are out there? Any anecdotal experience with such an instrument stories to share?

The horn weighs a ton (more than my Holton!) but has a depth of sound that is characteristically "Alexander" yet still really different. I like it. A lot.
I'm hoping I have it out here on the left coast at least long enough to play-test it against other flavors/iterations of Alex CC's. The horn is for sale.
