I did a number of sessions with a Rudy 4/4 when I had one a few years ago and it recorded well. I have found that many rotary valve horns have a more directional sound and record better than the broader sound of piston horns. There are, of course, many exceptions to this. Most notably perhaps is the Yamaha 822 F, which records remarkably well, and sounds very big when recorded. That is why this horn is so immensley popular in Los Angeles.
