Oddly enough, on May 31st (when everyone else was in Bloomington) Abe Torchinsky and I spoke at the conference of the Association for Recorded Sound Collections, chaired by the head of the recorded sound division of the Library of Congress, Samuel Brylawski. LC isn't going to have any influence in telling the NYPL what to do. Their specialists, however, would certainly provide technical assistance if the NYPL asked. The NYPL's own sound specialists are no doubt up to date on preservation technology.
