My problem with this line of discussion is that it seems to me that by putting a particular instrument on an altar, we're selling the guy who played it short. If Mr. Jacobs had been playing a Martin recording bell tuba, would we be scouring the countryside for bell-front Martins now?
Don't get me wrong, I like Yorks (I think I've got about 4 of them, including a big 6/4). But I do think that Mr. Jacobs could have played any old miserable garbage can of a horn and have gotten great music out of it.
