You'll be fine. When I was a junior in high school, I took a baseball to the mouth in a game and had seventeen stitches (in two separate layers) in my lower lip. Although this left a very large lump of scar tissue (one side of the lip is visibly bigger than the other), I'm still playing with no problems. For future reference for anyone who may be unfortunate enough to have something like this happen to them in the future, I have this advice based on my experience. The doctor will want to leave the wound open on one end for it to drain and thus avoid becoming infected. In fact, the place where mine was left open is the only place where appreciable scar tissue developed. I don't know if, from a medical standpoint, it would be acceptable to not leave this opening or leave a smaller than normal opening, but if so, it would have made the whole thing much less risky from a tuba playing standpoint.
