I play in a community band with 90+ members. Our four tubas played the "solo" in Dargason in unison at a recent festival of community bands.
The performance sounded fine....but there were some awful early rehearsals. Like Rick, we are fortunate......our conductor taught tuba and trombone, and would never let us "off the hook" so easily!
For our four concert summer series, our (now) five tubas are playing "Tuba Tiger Rag".
