I've decided that to really cover all possibilities, a community-band hobbyist such as myself needs at least 22 tubas. I'm am steadily approaching that goal, it seems.

But I think I could get by with the Holton and the Yamaha, which leave surprisingly little gap in the middle despite that the Holton is a 6/4 BBb and the Yamaha a 3/4 F. If those were my first two instruments, I might not have bought the others. But since I have them anyway, I use the Miraphone for standing gigs where I need a contrabass, and the York Master for when the Holton sounds too tubby (though I admit it hasn't happened yet). Who knows what opportunites may lurk around the corner? I might get asked to play in a small community orchestra, and find that the YM is the perfect instrument for it.
