As a novice/cheapskate/poor-boy, I'm considering pretty much the same solution -- but with a desktop, not a laptop. My question is, wouldn't a 25 ft. mic cord make the fan noise negligible? Nothing about the environment would be conducive to commercial recording, but as a means to just hear how I sound and critique my playing, I'm wondering if the tiny fan across the room is really a factor.
Also, for ANYONE reading: supposing a fellow was less-particular-than-average, and just couldn't justify more than $100 for a mic. What mic would you recommend?
