Here in the metropolitan New York area, the going rates for lessons on most instruments is between $40-75/hour, depending on experience and reputation. I would say most younger teachers get $40-45, and most seasoned teachers $65-75. Top level, famous players get upwards of $100-150 for a lesson. Whatever they charge, guys like Don Butterfield are underpaid.
