I agree - I just happened to play the Holton and a Conn 3J back to back on Friday night. After about 5 minutes I put the Holton down. I didn't like the ergonomics and it had very little projection - the instrument sounded like it had cotton wool shoved down the bell. The Conn 3J smoked the Holton in every way.
All instruments are very personal, so my opinions are just that, opinions. In the meantime, I'm going over to e-Bay....
