Hello. I was wondering if it would be a big deal to replace my bottom bow guard plate on my Conn Eb monster with something else. The local repair dude took out the dents, but when he put the plate back on, it does not look flush with the bow and there is solder visible ALL THE WAY around the plate, not dripping or anything. To make matters worse, when I play I can feel a little vibration when I place the horn in between my legs. The same goes for the guard plate on the left side as you're playing the horn; a lot of vibration when held by the left hand. Could I possibly hurt this horn any more if I replaced these guard plates with something from a different tuba? Has any of you repair guys out there done this before? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
