I used to make copies at will until I moved to a city with a bunch of composers and publishing companies. While the larger publishing companies of general music appear to make a killing off of their recorded works (i.e. Pop, Country, Christian Contemporary). The guys who write brass pieces don't, especially at $0.04 per copy sold. Most of what we play as brass players isn't heavily sold when compared choral or pop.

After "living" with these folks I don't believe it is the least bit ethical to copy music. They work their butts off trying to be creative just as hard as many of you who play professionally and as hard as anyone does at anything else.
