I've played in several small ensembles. In the quintets in which I've played, I owned the music and took it with me when we stopped playing together.

I was also in the TubaMeisters, which despite that fact is a professional group. That group did most of its own arrangement, by various members, and by consensus the arrangements are either owned by the arranger, or donated by the arranger to the group.

Music that we bought is owned by the purchaser, but if there was a piece that had become part of the basic repertoire of the group, the purchaser would likely donate it (or sell it) to the group. When I left (I moved to another city--sigh), I took my store-bought music with me, but left the arrangements that I had done on indefinite loan. A commitment to friendship is important, but discuss it beforehand if you are worried about it.
