I know that Jim Akins from Ohio State had been working on a new tuba for Kalison. I guess he had been flying to Italy periodically to play test some new designs and critique them, and then they'd make the changes at the factory and try it all over again. As a matter of fact, when I visited OSU as a junior in high school two years ago for an honor band type deal, he had some sort of a prototype with KABS engraved on the bell, standing for Kalison, Akins, Bennichio (sp.?), and Smith. When i was there last February around audition time, he was still working on it. I'm not too sure what's going on these days, though.
