As far as non-orchestral amateurs buying the BATs up, think about it this way. There are a LOT more amateurs than there are pros. If every amateur descended tomorrow on Walter Nirschl, bucks clenched in fists, for a Floydophone, it would only encourage production of similar instruments by others, with a resultant drop in prices and benefit to the orchestra players. Supply and demand and the capitalist system again, durn it all.

You can't get too serious about all of this. Sometimes we forget that all we're really doing is blowing raspberries through a megaphone... :)
