After retiring from the NYPO, Mr. Novotny moved to the Midwest with his parents, who he dedicated his life to taking care of, and, from what I have heard to people close to him, doesn't even acknowledge the fact that he ever played the tuba. My first teacher, Kevin Ladd(one of the true great tuba players no one really hears about) studied with Mr. Novotny and sang his praises as a musician and human being at every opportunity.
