OK, I've had my fun, now a serious answer. I've not heard of McFadden, but he may have been an apprentice of one of the more well known makers of the period. Stratton, of "over the shoulder" fame, made instruments at that time, and he was based in NYC. What type of valves does it have? Graves and Co. of New England (various sites) was the earliest large scale wind instrument manufacture in America, conducting business from 1824-1869. Perhaps our Mr. McFadden was an orphan of his? J. Howard Foote worked in NYC at the time, but was solely an importer. Another NYC connection might be Moses Slater, also a maker of ots civil war horns. How about Fiske in MA or Lehnert in Phil.?
Sorry no answers, but maybe a few leads.
good luck!
