I was able to hear two of the performances this weekend at Carnegie. The Bruckner was an incredible concert. The brass played great...loud, but by no means too loud. I was sitting with a viola player, who was really impressed with the excitement of the brass, accomplished without obliterating the rest of the orchestra. It was a much more unified sound than most of the Bruckner I've heard from the CSO, with no "soloists", volume-wise. Notably, there was no plexiglass in evidence onstage. Gene Pokorny displayed an awesome range of tone color, from clear and ringing in the 1st and 3rd movements, to wonderfully thick, soft, sustained playing in the second movement.

The most impressive things I heard were the greatly improved (IMO) sound of both the string and woodwind sections. New players all around...especially great were the principal flute and bassoon.
