With my Yamaha YEB-381, and the main tuning slide at a "typical" slide pull of an inch or maybe 1.5 inches, I need to add one sousaphone mouthpiece "bit" (a.k.a. tuning bit) between my mpc and the tuba for proper intonation (A=440). If I omit the "bit", then I must pull the main tuning slide until it's in danger of falling out of the horn to achieve A=440. This is with a Wick 2L mpc. With a PT-65, it's even worse (i.e. more sharp).

The good news is that: 1) adding a sousy tuning bit actually improves the playing position of the horn for me, and 2) the horn plays well in tune once this minor accommodation is made.

My mileage . . .
