It's very easy to fix the spit in the leadpipe problem when you set the tuba on the bell and leave it for a while.
When you come back just grab the bottom and tip it toward the reciever so the receiver goes lower and the spit will drain right out. It usually pours out at shows where I am showing them.
It happens alot faster than you think and the build up in the leadpipe is more condensation than spit.
