I could be wrong but I remember when I was buying my first CC tuba (in 1979-80) that Hirsbrunner only had rotary valve instruments available at Custom except for the Yorkbrunner. At least that is my recollection. The reason it sticks in my head is that one of the two finalists in my tuba search was a Hirsbrunner 5 rotary valve CC (I don't remember the model number) that had a detachable leadpipe. Supposedly the horn was made for Roger Bobo but he didn't take delivery so they offered it to me (among others). The first time I saw anyone with a piston valve Hirsbrunner was in 1984-85. One of the graduate students at University of Illinois (Bill Chamberlain?) had a really nice 4 valve model.

My opinion for what it's worth...
