I also have a plastic R&S mute. I like it, and dislike it. Unlike some mutes, it does not interfere with intonation too badly, even in the low range. It is adjustable-----I've been able to use it on tubas of different sizes. However, the sound is NOT like a muted tuba. Rather, it's quite open and free, but not as loud as an open horn. In view of the above, I ask myself "Why use it at all?" I'd sell mine for 1/2 price if anyone is interested. (Contact me at e-mail address shown above.)
