The German Brass concert completely rocked my concept of brass playing. I agree with DZ's post above about feeling like a beginner when hearing that level of playing. I have never heard an F tuba play with that kind of presence in a brass ensemble (he also played BBb). Walter Hilgers completely filled the room, but never sounded forced, or even particularly loud. Just always there. Wow. I heard Allan Dean say that he had never heard anything like it in his life. I'm just kind of dumbfounded.
And by the way, we should all emulate the friendliness and warmth of these guys. They certainly could be much more full of themselves, but rather are some of the nicest guys I have had the pleasure of getting to know.
