Maslanka is a great composer. "A Child's Garden of Dreams", albeit a bit grand, is a wonderful piece. Michael Colgrass is another name that comes to mind and his "Winds of Nagual" based upon the Carlos Casteneda books. I'm also a fan of David Diamond, Walter Piston and William Schuman.
