I have one of these horns, and I don't know how the set-up for the semi-permanent change happens, but the pull on the 5th slide is long enough to where I can push it back in to an even whole step, press the valve, and have in -effect a BBb tuba. I use this occasionally to play along with beginning students with fingering problems.
