My horn hasn't had laquer on it in years and the best way to get it that patina is to give it time to happen. If you really want to get things going fast you could dip the horn in a bath mixed with epsom salt but this will surely cause pitting in the brass. Many lamp companies especially land scape lighting ones use this technique to get the Verdi finish on copper fixtures started and then dab it with a salt water solution cloth to get the desired texture to the finish. I personally would not reccomend this. Let it age like a fine wine.
