The Mehta/IPO is one of my favorites of this work. But though the brass certainly play loud enough when they're supposed to, sheer loudness of the brass playing is not this recording's most arresting feature. The natural clarity and beauty of Adi Hershko's tuba playing is enough reason for any of us to have this CD in our collections. Adi hasn't put himself into the global recital/clinic/tuba convention road chase, but he's world class. Get this CD (on Teldec) and hear it for yourselves.
