Try with a straw and a glass of water first. Blow bubbles, keeping your cheeks in. Running out of air at some point? Good! shortly before that blow up your cheeks. Still running out of air? Good! Now stop blowing with your llungs, start blowing with your cheeks. Doesn´t gget any air back into you? Wait! try the cheek-blowing thing and try to inhale simultaneously. Difficult? practice til the bubbles keep going through a number of breaths, then go and transfer the whole affair onto the tuba.
BTW, a teacher once played the entire intro to Rhinegold to me AS PRINTED!! Basically consists just of a pedal Eb the goes on for ever.. Wild
