Having had a not dissimilar situation to yours, I pooled with a trumpet player all the music we had and put a quintet together. Over the years we have developed a library of hundreds of tunes, rehearse weekly and play more gigs and concerts than when playing professonally was my goal! I was not interested in playing with various "pick-up" groups, though the calls I get now are from quality ensembles. In our case we went with players who make a living outside music (including teaching music). Another group in the area is made up exclusevly of music teachers wanting a musical outlet. Quintet music will give you something to work on that can result in some satisfying ensemble playing, and possibly supplement your income, though in my case I have spent all the money I have made on music related purchases (3 tubas, lots of music, tuners and such). Not bad when the whole point was to get together with friends and just play!
