I use a playground ball to stuff in the bell. If you hear air leaking out somewhere you can bet that's a big part of the problem. Sometimes I've used a stethescope to isolate the leak area. I'll take a soapy solution and paint it onto joins at the ferrules and slides. Look for the bubbles and you'll have the culprit. Good luck
