I also bought and played a 10J after not playing for a long period of time. It makes a good practice horn. Being a 3/4 size horn it does not have a big presence in a larger group. I also found some intonation problems. I found out who was playing the VERY out of tune D (in the staff)as well as other notes. It was me. Also check for air leaks. My horn had some leaky solder joints that created problems. The playing range of my horn also has some limitations. From Bb below the staff to F in the staff played easily. Outside of this range took some work. When I got another horn I instantly found a whole new octave and a half using the same mouthpiece and the same mouth.

Make sure you check out the archives of this board for more discussion about this model. Some good information has been posted.

Good luck on playing again - I found a whole "new" source of pleasure when I started back.
