While I agree that it is a good skill to be able to switch back and forth between CC and BBb tubas, using this method to learn CC fingerings is not as efficient as going "cold turkey". The original poster took 6 months before he was comfortable on CC fingerings - 6 months!! That's the better part of a school year.
When I made the switch, I had a comfortable proficiency with CC fingerings in less than one month and blazing fluency in two months. Now I am faced with playing a BBb tuba again for the summer, but I don't expect the 'switch back' to take more than a week or two. Once you know both sets of fingerings 'cold', it isn't difficult to get in the habit of switching back and forth.
