Gold will feel smoother against the skin, for those that like less grip on their chops. it is also not going to react with any oils or chemicals that may be present on the skin(such as make-up, a problem my wife was experiencing)Gold plate won't last forever; but if you make sure the only thing the rim touches is your face, then that will extend the life of the plating job. Don't store mouthpieces standing on their rims and get a good pouch for the one that lives in your case.A good gold plating job should be around $40 for a tuba mpc and(I assume) less for a euph mpc.
As far as sound goes, note for note there shouldn't be any difference; but if less friction or more friction makes you play better, then yes, I suppose there is a sound difference.
