Who cares about spit. I own a tuba that has no spit valves. It honestly plays better without the spit valves. I have the slide with the spit valve and it does not play as centered. I pull slides and dump. You get more spit out consistently when you pull and dump than blowing out a small spit valve and have less problems and hassles without them.
Piston valves have more prorblems with upper slides retaining water especially after 30 minutes and have to be pulled and dumped anyway. This way you get the upper and lower at the same time.
