On most tubas with that style of piston valve tubing you can get the water out of the first valve tubing with one quick move: tip the bell downward a bit from horizontal with the first valve depressed, then bring it back up to playing position. The water runs through the other valves and down to the bend just below, which is usually pretty easy to empty. It works like a charm on my Bohm & Meinl and on the Olds that one of my students owns. On my Weril I do another quick twist with the valves up to bring the water back into the leadpipe tuning slide, which I then pull to dump. The one thing that I don't like about my Nirshl valve set is the fact that this move does not work on it.
