I'm a bad tuba player and a worse euphonium player. When I acquired my Besson Imperial with the large-shank receiver, I bought a mouthpiece locally just to have something to try. It was a 1-1/2 G bass trombone mouthpiece. I thought it had an edgy sound, and it played terribly out of tune (flat) on my Besson.

I tried a Wick 4, but found mouthpiece Nirvana with the Steven Mead range. I prefer the SM3, but I also have an SM4 for when I want to play high (that is--high for a tuba player). Unlike the bass-bone mouthpiece, they play in tune on the instrument, or at least approximately so. And they sound a little more like a euphonium and a little less like a valve trombone.
