Bryan- Cleaning rotary valves without disassembling them is about the equivalent of doing a carbureter overhaul by spraying a can of gumout into the air intake with the engine running. The internal tolerances are small, and if you manage to dislodge any material through the use of household cleaners, you may very well end up with more sluggishness than before the treatment. Also mixing various oils can lead to later problems. I believe that if you know what you're doing, take them apart. If not, get thee to an instrument technician.
