We'll that's another story. The Mirafones are touted to be pretty well in tune (and are for that matter). As you stated, when one learns his/her instrument inside and out,(which takes time) the unique playing characteristics of the instrument become very workable for that player.(with exceptions obviously). I have found the MW2145 to be a delightful "walk in the park" in more ways than many instruments that I've played. I believe the 2145 to be a great all-around instrument for the "above average" college student.
