I used to work for Yamaha in Grand Rapids. In 1995 we had one of the YBB-841 tubas in stock. It was a great horn but not right for the market at the time. It was a large rotary tuba that played very sweetly. I was very seriously considering buying this horn even though I am a CC player. It had the sound that I wanted for orchestral playing, but it wasn't so great that I'd be willing to switch back to BBb. I think that if more people would have tried it, more would have bought it. It was similar in cost to the B&S top of the line BBb. Additionally, according to Yamaha press releases, it is in use in several large European orchestras.
