It happens to all of us, only some have more ability to put the horn away for a bit than others. I remember what Dennis Wick says in his book, "Trombone Technique", which is an excellent read. Every year he would take 5-6 weeks off from the horn, just shove it under the bed. Then every 5-6 years he would take 6 months off, and after each 'vacation' he felt not only re-energized about playing, but that his playing had improved once he was back in shape. I tired it one year, and I felt the same way. But I've found that for me, being in groups that are not only musically rewarding, but also personally fun keep me from getting burnt out. That doesn't mean I don't get tired sometimes, but (knock on wood), I havn't burnt out in many years now.

Good luck, and maybe buy a taller bed?

Robert
