I can agree with your statements. Much of our ear is trained at the youngest of ages. I was fortunate to have a grandfather who was intent on exposing us to music in various forms by performance. My father, who is barely able to play a stereo, insisted on having us listen to recordings of accepted band and orchestra literature. Without those seeds planted in your head, it is harder to adapt to the needs of a musician.
